A trip to Raja Ampat feels different aboard Wellenreng Liveaboard, a 25-meter wooden Phinisi built by hand in Tanah Beru, South Sulawesi. Her hull is ironwood, the interior full teak, and building her took three years before she first sailed to Flores in 2011. The Wellenreng Liveaboard Charter keeps groups small on purpose, only 6 guests (up to 9 persons) across 3 air-conditioned cabins, so it never feels like sharing a boat with strangers.
Facilities lean toward slow mornings and slower afternoons: a 360-degree observation deck with beanbags, a sundeck for sunbathing, and a small library stocked with fish ID books for downtime between dives. Diving itself is taken seriously too, 3 to 4 dives a day, night dives included, free Nitrox, a local guide, and a 7-meter fiberglass tender built to reach Raja Ampat's harder-to-reach sites fast. The onboard chef mixes Indonesian and European dishes daily, with local coffee from the espresso machine to round things off. It's this mix of classic Phinisi charm, close service, and serious diving that keeps Wellenreng on repeat guests' lists.
