Backpacker to Labuan Bajo - IndonesiaJuara

Indonesia is renowned for its abundant natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Each region offers unique attractions, and one of the most sought-after destinations is Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara. If you plan to visit, here’s a detailed itinerary backpacker to Labuan Bajo.

4-Day Backpacker Itinerary to Labuan Bajo

Planning a backpacking trip involves knowing how many days you’ll spend in the destination. This sample 4-day itinerary for Labuan Bajo includes visiting at least three places each day. Here’s what you can do during those four days.

Day 1

On your first day in East Nusa Tenggara, you first need to find accommodation. As a backpacker moving around frequently, you can choose budget lodgings around Manggarai Regency. After settling in, get ready for your first destination.

Kelor Island

Known as a transit island, Kelor Island is a must-visit for all travelers, whether on tour or exploring independently. Although visitors often spend only a short time here, the beauty of Kelor Island is worth capturing. You can hike up a hill for about 30 minutes to enjoy beautiful views of the blue sea and clear skies.

Komodo or Padar Island

Next, you can cross over to Komodo Island or Padar Island to see the famous Komodo dragons, the unique reptiles found only in Indonesia. The Komodo National Park encompasses three islands: Rinca, Flores, and Komodo, with around 1,900 Komodo dragons distributed across the area. Entrance fees are Rp5,000 on weekdays and Rp7,000 on weekends.

Gili Laba

After enjoying the Komodo dragons, head north of Komodo Island to Gili Laba Hill, known for its breathtaking photo spots. For the best shots, visit at sunset when the orange hues of the sky create a stunning backdrop.

Day 2

On the second day, continue exploring islands near Komodo Island. Here are some recommendations:

Rinca Island

Rinca Island offers lush palm trees, a refreshing contrast to Komodo Island’s shrublands. Due to its natural beauty, it’s a favorite spot for photo shoots.

Kalong Island

The transition from reptiles to another wildlife attraction on Kalong Island, between Rinca Island and Papagarang Island. You can reach it in 35 minutes by speedboat from Labuan Bajo. The island has thousands of fruit bats and tall mangrove trees over 3 meters high.

Manjarite Island

For those who love marine life, the next stop is Manjarite Island, known for its snorkeling equipment rentals. Explore the vibrant underwater world filled with colorful fish and coral reefs.

Day 3

On the third day, focus on water activities like sunbathing, snorkeling, or diving at the following spots:

Taka Makassar

Taka Makassar is a unique and magical sand island that appears only at certain times, particularly during low tide. If you visit during high tide, the island won’t be visible. Don’t forget to snorkel or dive here.

Pink Beach

True to its name, Pink Beach features pink sand due to microorganisms. This beach attracts tourists who want to see the unusual pink sand and is surrounded by the limestone mountains of Komodo Island, a rare sight elsewhere.

Transit to West Manggarai

End the day by transiting to West Manggarai for more attractions. Remember to pack your belongings as the next day’s activities will be based here.

Day 4

On your final day in Labuan Bajo, visit attractions such as West Manggarai and Batu Cermin Cave. This cave houses marine fossils embedded in its walls. Entrance fees are Rp10,000 per person or Rp20,000 if you hire a tour guide. Don’t miss the nearby Cunca Wulang Waterfall.
